Perennial Cornflower Amethyst in Snow
Blue perennial cornflowers are stalwarts of the cottage garden, and Centaurea Amethyst in Snow is a lovely new variety, well named for its white and amethyst colouring. It’s a spreading, mat-forming, herbaceous perennial with grey-green leaves covered in fine silvery hairs. In late spring and early summer cornflower-like flowers open from scaly buds, with snow-white tubular petals surrounding a rich amethyst centre. Cut back after flowering for fresh foliage and more flowers. Perennial cornflowers are easy, reliable plants, and Amethyst in Snow will really light up a border.
