Japanese Elm
A beautiful vase-shaped tree native to Japan, Korea and eastern China. Potentially living to over 1000 years old, it has recently been planted as a street or parkland tree where it provides good shade in Summer months. Its Autumn interest is quite beautiful, turning a beautiful golden colour but in small sections at a time. Its smooth grey bark peels to reveal orange patches. Can be pruned to keep in a relatively small garden, but for best effect give it plenty of space in the centre of a lawn, or along a pathway.
